Home is where the heart is
The 'ber months are here and I'm mostly thinking about what I can fill my home with...
Long time no ramble! I really thought it would be a quiet summer at home but it was actually quite hectic haha. I’m kind of still clinging onto summer to be honest (we’re off to Crotia soon, woop) but also do love a cosy Autumnal day… I cannot quite believe that we are in September already. It feels like I was scrapbooking my New Year’s resolutions only yesterday… Speaking of New Year’s resolutions, I actually completed mine for the first time ever! It was to grow my own flowers and I have some lovely dahlias to show for it (and two singular tomatoes, but let’s not dwell on quantity right now).
We finally moved into our home two weeks ago, and despite the mess, untouched boxes, floordrobe and random wires sticking out of walls, it is starting to feel like home. I do actually miss my family and being around people all day after living with them for two whole years but I know I’ll settle into this new norm soon enough. The living room is the only room that is almost finished at the moment! If you read my earlier newsletters you’ll remember me banging on about this fireplace that I found in a garden centre back in freezing February… I L O V E her…
My interior hat has been firmly on as I’ve also spruced up my art studio, here is a little sneak peek:
I’m painting:
- Our bedroom!! I’ve always wanted to do a handpainted mural and I’m so so happy with what I’ve done so far - now to find the time and energy to do the wholeeee room. It has made me feel really nostalgic as my aunty would come to our flat in London when we were kids and paint our bedroom walls combining all of our favourite Disney films with castles and wildlife and everything that you can imagine as a little daydreamer girl. I also requested Dennis the Menace which says a lot about me as a kid haha (I used to only eat green sweets because of that show). I wonder if I can find a photo…
I got the current lovely tenant of my childhood home to send me a photo! Here they are in all their glory - can’t believe they’ve lasted that long from the 90s to be honest:
- Currently the studio looks like this as I’m painting pieces for Glassette. Still truly obsessed with painting lily pads so they won’t be going anywhere for a while (painting is in progress, not finished yet)…
-My Ffern workshop in London was so intimate and lovely - I picked these flowers up from the flower market and we painted them together!! A lot goes into workshops mentally and physically but they’re always so so rewarding and leave me feeling so happy & grateful <3 really looking forward tot heir Autumn 24 perfume and in this over-consumerist world I really love that they only have one beautiful and incredibly thought out product at a time…
I’m crafting:
The first thing to put up in our home was this little frame with photobooth pictures in! Such an easy way to add something personable (and super cheap) to your home. I made a little video of the process here.
I’m loving:
- Pinterest for interiors !!! Currently sorting out our dining room and constantly on pinterest for inspo. I want to bring some more colour into the house I think... I’m really having a burgundy moment but also loving moss green too. I asked Chat GPT to find this rug that I’m obsessed with and it sadly failed so I’ll just keep dreaming:
- Vinted of course, but not just for fashion, for nick nacks!!! Look at these home accessories I got below, including a spice rack which I’ve painted the same colour as the kitchen and were going to get it up on the wall. I get so distracted on there, I was looking for a chopping board and ended up buying a cheese board with a special cheese knife which slots into it (ADHD meds can only help to a certain point haha). I’m also loving eBay but I’ve recently forgotten about two things that I was bidding on and was so excited for so I’m currently moping BIG time about them so we won’t mention the E word for a while…
Goals for Autumn/Winter:
- Don’t. burn. myself. out. This manifests in many different ways but I think if I had a solid morning routine and felt motivated earlier on in the day this would solve a lot of my problems and improve my time management
- Get the house feeling cosy and not finished (because let’s be realistic lol) but welcomeable to guests
- Create some new prints for my website !! Let me know if there’s anything you have a burning itch of seeing/putting on your walls in print form
- Get back into the groove of pottery which starts at the end of the month (all of the back to school vibes, I love it!!)
- Lots of long dog walks and red wineee timeeee with friends <3
Speak soon!! Lots of love,
Harlie x
